A sheet of card curved from the wall down onto a table (a &quot;sweep&quot;) gives a clean background with no visible corner.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Something white to bounce light\u003C\u002Fstrong>: a sheet of white card or foam board on the side away from the window fills in the shadows.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Something to steady the phone\u003C\u002Fstrong>: a small tripod with a phone clamp, or a stack of books.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Tape, a cloth and a soft brush\u003C\u002Fstrong> to fix the background and remove dust and fingerprints.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Ch2 id=\"set-up-the-light\">Set up the light\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Light is what makes a photo look professional.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Col>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Use daylight from a window\u003C\u002Fstrong>, with the room lights off. Mixed light (daylight plus a warm bulb) gives colours that are hard to correct.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Avoid direct sun.\u003C\u002Fstrong> It makes hard shadows and bright spots. If the sun shines in, hang a thin white curtain or baking paper over the window to soften it.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Put the product beside the window\u003C\u002Fstrong>, not in front of it, so the light comes from the side.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Place the white card on the other side\u003C\u002Fstrong> to bounce light back into the shadows. Move it closer for softer shadows.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Shoot at the same time of day\u003C\u002Fstrong> for every session, so all your photos match.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Fol>\n\u003Cp>If you have no good window, two identical daylight lamps (5000–6500 K) with diffusers, one on each side, do the same job and give the same light every time.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2 id=\"the-shots-every-product-needs\">The shots every product needs\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Take the same set for every product, in the same order. Instead, step back slightly and use the 2× lens if your phone has one: it flattens the product a little and avoids the stretched look of a close wide-angle shot.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Turn off the flash.\u003C\u002Fstrong> It flattens the product and creates glare.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Turn on the grid\u003C\u002Fstrong> to keep the product straight and centred.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Tap the product to focus\u003C\u002Fstrong>, then slide the brightness down slightly if white parts look blown out.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Lock focus and exposure\u003C\u002Fstrong> (a long press on most phones) so every shot in the set looks the same.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Avoid portrait mode\u003C\u002Fstrong> for main shots. Its artificial blur often cuts into the product&#39;s edges.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Shoot in the shape you will use.\u003C\u002Fstrong> If your store&#39;s theme shows products as squares or as 4:5 portraits, compose for that shape now rather than cropping later, so nothing important ends up cut off.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Ch2 id=\"taking-the-photos\">Taking the photos\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Clean the product and the lens\u003C\u002Fstrong> first. Dust and fingerprints show up clearly in close-ups.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Hold the phone at the product&#39;s height\u003C\u002Fstrong> for the main shot, not looking down on it — unless it is a flat item like a book or a scarf, which you shoot from directly above.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Keep the phone still\u003C\u002Fstrong>: use a tripod or rest it on something, and use the timer or a remote.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Take several of each shot\u003C\u002Fstrong> and choose the sharpest later.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>For clothing\u003C\u002Fstrong>, a model or a mannequin shows the fit far better than a flat item; if you photograph flat, smooth and shape the garment carefully and shoot from directly above.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Ch2 id=\"editing\">Editing\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Keep editing light and the same for every product. The phone&#39;s built-in editor is enough.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Col>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Straighten and crop\u003C\u002Fstrong> to the shape your store uses, leaving even space around the product.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Correct brightness\u003C\u002Fstrong> so the background looks white or light grey, not dull.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Correct colour\u003C\u002Fstrong> so the product matches the real thing.
